Research Section

The Research Section has several important roles within the THPO. First, the Research team supports the work of other THPO sections and ensures that the story of the Seminole Tribe of Florida and their ancestors is told accurately from the perspective of the Tribe. The Research team also manages important resources, such as the Seminole Site File, which contains records of all the archaeological and historical resources on Tribal lands, and which are important to the Tribe’s history. Finally, THPO Research provides outreach to the public, works with academic communities, and generally promotes the decolonization of history.

Meet the THPO Research Team

David Scheidecker, Senior Research Coordinator, Seminole Tribal Historic Preservation Office — Collections Section

William (Bill) Locascio, Research Manager

Bill earned his Ph.D. in Anthropology at the University of Pittsburgh in 2010 and worked as an Assistant Professor at Florida Gulf Coast University before coming to the THPO. Bill brings more than a decade of experience leading archaeological field research in Florida and Panama and teaching undergraduates how to ethically practice archaeology in the 21st century. Bill has been with the THPO since 2024.

Dave Scheidecker, Senior Research Coordinator

Dave graduated from Florida Atlantic University with a B.A. in History, and from Texas Tech with an M.A. in Anthropology. He has worked on historic and pre-contact archaeological sites in Texas and Ecuador and has served on archaeological projects in Zimbabwe. Dave has been with the THPO since 2015.
